Our Mission
BioAg Insights partners with ag biotech startups to develop biological products for real-world farming applications, delivering measurable results through practical, stewardship-focused development.
From formulation to furrow.

Meet the Founder
Richard Belcher, PhD
I am an ag biotech professional with more than a decade of startup experience in product development, formulation science, and field deployment. Throughout my career, I have worked to bridge the gap between R&D and real-world agriculture by helping translate innovative concepts into practical, grower-ready products. My background includes cross-functional work with fermentation teams, along with more direct hands-on experience in formulation, compatibility testing, and product evaluation under commercial agricultural conditions. Through BioAg Insights LLC, I support ag biotech companies with practical product development, technical problem-solving, and field-focused execution.
Who We Partner With
BioAg Insights works with ag biotech startups that are developing biological products in fast-paced, resource-conscious environments. Whether your product is still pre-trial or has already completed initial trials, but has not yet launched, I provide practical support to help accelerate development and prepare for commercial use.

The Product Development Cycle
Biological product development is shaped by the realities of the growing season. From formulation and application development to field trialing, data insights, and launch readiness, each stage is refined through iterative testing and field-driven learning. Trial results feed back into the next round of development, creating a seasonal cycle that supports product improvement, grounded decisions, and stronger readiness for commercial use.

As product development moves toward a seasonal release date, realistic and measurable milestones become essential. Stage-gated planning helps balance timelines, internal bandwidth, and available resources while aligning development priorities with technical workflows. The result is a more practical path forward, with progress measured through clear milestones that produce deliverables.

Within each stage of the product development cycle, well-designed experiments help turn technical questions into meaningful data and actionable insights. Statistical replication, controlled variables, and real-world relevance create a stronger foundation for product decisions, technical refinement, and field-ready deployment.

Formulation Development
Successful formulation development for biological products depends on compatibility with existing crop-applied chemistries, stability in package, and maintaining viability through application. Together, these factors create a stronger foundation for reliable performance from formulation to furrow.

Application Development
Application development focuses on how a product performs at the point of use. Beyond formulation, successful deployment depends on fit with real-world farming operations, including delivery method, equipment compatibility, and practical use under field conditions. This work helps support product performance without adding unnecessary disruption to routine practices.
Lab Design and Buildout
Effective product development depends not only on sound planning and experimentation, but also on functional laboratory spaces that support day-to-day execution. Lab design support helps align layout, utilities, casework, and equipment with workflow efficiency, safety, and ergonomics so teams can operate more effectively from the start.
